1010 is a Hamburg-based contemporary artist known for his abstract holes or portals which tend to drop the viewer’s gaze into remote, bottomless chasms using scaffolded layers of color and shading. For more than a decade, the artist has been painting city murals, canvases and paper-cuts which all transmit the same intensity.

One of the reasons for 1010’s increasing renown is the dramatic, three-dimensional quality of his compositions: each one subverts the superficial 2D setting in which it is placed. Just like mapping a physical terrain with lines, he constructs unusual reliefs using organic contour lines and dramatic shadows for an increasing sense of declination.
