Lorien Stern & Katie Kimmel - "You Are Good"

Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present You Are Good - a two-person exhibition featuring new works by Lorien Stern and Katie Kimmel. Each of the artists’ vibrant ceramic works celebrate optimism, humor and levity.

Lorien Stern and Katie Kimmel, who often work collaboratively, began with the sentiment “You are good and I like being around you” from a 2020 piece the duo created. Drawing from our collective experience of isolation and loneliness of the past two years, Stern and Kimmel have created a menagerie of colorful companions that celebrate community and playful optimism.

Brightly festooned dogs, birds, ghosts, dragons, sea creatures, snakes and more gather together throughout the gallery to create an exultant environment. Stern has created some of her largest works to date, including a lemon yellow dragon and chromed silver snake that undulates across the gallery. Kimmel’s friendly characters - including a tortoise in a cowboy hat, a puppy picking persimmons and cloud spotted dogs - frolic and converse together.
