Press release

NEW YORK CITY— Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present I Hope This Finds You Well, a solo exhibition by Bellingham-based artist Abigail Goldman. The exhibition will be Goldman's fifth solo exhibition at Hashimoto Contemporary.

In this next installment of her self coined dieoramas, Goldman continues to explore the gory impulses of humanity that are typically hidden under polite niceties and social contracts. Deceptively idyllic scenes are depicted on a 1:87 scale, but further examination proves not everything is as it seems.

Tableaus of gruesome chaos are revealed in a suburban backyard, a storefront, doctor’s office or the calm swells of the ocean. Friendly neighbors mow over bodies and bury them in the garden. Diligent housekeepers mop up bloody floors in living rooms. All the while neat hedges continue to be trimmed and afternoon picnics carry on.

Goldman’s new text based works Very Well and Please Don’t house mischievous and gruesome figures in each letter, referencing the professional greetings that many of us often send through gritted teeth and with unspoken grudges.

These miniature worlds showcase both violence and humor with equal attention to detail, inviting us to examine our own place between civility and brutality.

Join us for the opening of I Hope This Finds You Well on Saturday, May 9th with a reception from 6pm - 8pm. The artist will be in attendance. The exhibition will run through Saturday, May 30th.
