SAN FRANCISCO—Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Friends & Family, a group exhibition highlighting new and recent works by artists from within our community.
Featuring over thirty artists working a range of media, Friends & Family brings together a wide spectrum of artists, celebrating the diversity of the contemporary art world with an emphasis on the Bay Area community.
Gina M. Contreras’ When The Wind is Fair uses bold self-portraiture to confront cultural expectations and body norms, centrally placing a nude figure situated in a domestic interior while a second self-portrait gazes in through the window, layering elements of exploration of identity, self-perception, and inherited expectations. Austin Elfio Montanari’s Night Drive depicts a stylized a deer caught in the headlights of a truck, blending abstract forms with symbolic tension. The dramatic moment evokes themes of collision, capturing a fleeting, perilous encounter.
In Groceries for the Week, Lucy Stark paints a vibrant still life of fresh ingredients laid out with care, evoking the anticipation of shared meals. Inspired by family and tradition, the work serves as both tribute and visual archive of the quiet rituals of nourishment and memory. Rachel Strum’s Undercurrent explores the interplay of light, color, and material to invite viewers into a space of shifting dimensions.
