Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Verdant, a solo exhibition featuring new works by Florida-based artist Corey Lamb. The artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery will feature new, vibrant oil paintings blending eroticism, humor and death.
Through this body of work, Lamb reevaluates his relationship to sex, reproduction and masculinity following his elective sterilization. Working primarily with hyper-saturated pinks and greens, each of the distilled and stylized nude figures explores a verdant garden with a sense of looming violence and doom. Each character is aware of their temporary visit to the mischievous, Eden-esque world encapsulated within Lamb’s paintings.
Lamb weaves the intertwined nature of sex and death with moments of levity and brutality to create allegorical narratives. “Deep melancholy and absolute bliss permeate throughout the images” as the figures revel in their voyeuristic sin, be it the creation of corpses or life.
